Montezuma Castle & Montezuma Well

Less than an hour north of Phoenix, we ventured to Montezuma Castle National Monument in search of another stamp in our National Park passport and another opportunity to get out and enjoy our beautiful Arizona weather.

Montezuma Castle is a 20 room high-rise apartment, nestled into a towering limestone cliff. Awe inspiring and considered to be quite the architectural and engineering feat. Dating back to December 8, 1906, we learned the history and the story of tells a story of community and family; of survival and despair.

About 10 miles down the road, we visited Montezuma’s Well – where we saw a beautiful oasis surrounded by lush landscaping. We learned that Spanish settlers traveled through the area as early as the 1500s and a small mail station was operated here in 1870. Overall, a beautiful day for an adventure. Have you been?
